In order to strengthen the sustainable development of commercial sites and to preserve and protect soil functions in accordance with the Federal Soil Protection Act, thus also supporting climate impact adaptation, local authorities have the option of influencing the design of new commercial or logistics sites via specifications in regional, land use and development plans as well as design statutes, in addition to the preferential designation of brownfield sites.
